About Us
Norsk Fjordskinn has established a research tannery in Trondheim, where we develop new tanning agents, tanning processes, and automation technology for the leather industry. The company is recognized as an environmental technology enterprise and has received support from Innovation Norway.
We collaborate with Isfjord Norway on skin pre-treatment and are planning the establishment of a pilot tannery where innovative and sustainable solutions can be tested on a larger scale. The goal is to demonstrate how tanning of fish leather can generate significant value creation and form the basis for exciting new products.
Norsk Fjordskinn works closely with NTNU, engaging students in several bachelor’s and master’s theses. Master’s student Petter Olsen studied the properties of salmon skin after different tanning processes and is now employed as the company’s Technical Manager. Two other former students have continued as advisors after completing their studies.
We also collaborate with relevant customer groups that use fish leather in their production. Our agent and mentor, Gunnsteinn Bjørnsson, is a key resource in ensuring production quality and customer satisfaction. Marianne Mørck has worked for many years in sustainable fashion and founded the clothing brand MØRCK, with a focus on short-traveled and durable materials such as leather and Norwegian-produced textiles. In 2018 she founded the sole proprietorship Norsk Fjordskinn, carrying out feasibility studies to explore the technical and market conditions for sustainable production of tanned salmon leather connected to Norway’s aquaculture industry. The results of these initial studies were promising. In 2020, Norsk Fjordskinn AS was established together with Tom Roger Larsen, who had extensive experience in industrial electronics and sensor technology. Together with colleague Bjørn Lian, Larsen contributed to the development of methods for optical characterization of fish leather. Tom Roger Larsen has since left the company, but his contributions laid a solid foundation for further development.
